IGP Vijay Kumar says commoners who adhere to norms should be brand ambassadors of safety

SONMARG, Aug 27 (The CONNECT) – “We use film Heros as brand ambassadors, but the real heroes are not Reel Heroes. Real Heroes are amongst people,” said Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking at the awards function of the two-day Greentech Foundation’s open-air event, Vijay Kumar said: “We use celebrities as brand ambassadors to encourage people to wear helmets. Instead, we can pick up people from among us, in the community.”  Those who strictly adhere to safety norms must be the safety ambassadors instead celebrities, he argued.

Police and doctors, he said, deal with human lives. A small mistake may take away lives. So, safety is utmost important. Mistakes happen because of three reasons: absence of Standard Operating (SOPs) Practices; but not following the SOPs and third intentionally avoiding the SOPs.

The ‘Chalta Hai’ attitude must go, the top cop said.

He called for policy of reward and punishment. Reward for doing good and punishment for doing bad.
